I finally got myself entered into the USMS National meet coming up in May. I booked a room a while ago, but I’ve been waiting to actually qualify for some events before I entered the meet. You don’t have to qualify to swim by the way. Any USMS registered swimmer can do up to 3 events without meeting the qualifying times (qualifying times are listed here). You can swim up to 6 if you qualify in the other 3 events.

I am going to swim on Friday and Saturday in the 100 fly, 50 fly, 50 free, and my wildcard event… the 200 breast. The 200 breast is the wrong event at the right time. I figured why not. I was going to try this one out at Long Beach in December but it was too late in the day and I needed to drive home. Hopefully I’ll be able to swim a few relays while I’m there too.

Don’t forget that the USMS 1 Mile Open Water Championships are the Monday right after the meet in a Lake out in Fresno. I want to drive back out and do this swim if I can get the time for it. You can read more about the open water event here.

I realize it’s still a little more than 2 months away, but where are you going to stay is a pretty good question to be asking yourself right now. Some area hotels are starting to sell out, especially the ones that have a shuttle to the pool. I finally made my reservations for USMS Nationals today. I looked at the available hotels a while ago and figured I could wait awhile… I checked again today and my first choice of hotel had sold out so I realized that I needed to get my name on a room in a hurry!

As it stands right now I am swimming Friday and Saturday for sure. If I hit some q-times I might find some events to keep me around on Sunday. I do want to swim the 1 mile open water event on Monday but I don’t know if I can justify that much time and money to hang out in Fresno.
