Rob Dumouchel is an open water marathon swimmer and open water enthusiast from the Central Coast of California via Wisconsin. Rob has participated in open water swims all over the country ranging from under a mile to over 12 miles, he’s hoping to add a channel swim or major bay crossing to his resume in the near future.  En route to achieving that goal in 2011 he started the year off by doing the first known Avila Beach to Pismo Beach Pier to Pier Polar Bear Swim in 53 degree water with no wetsuit. This may not have been the coldest Polar Bear Swim in the country, but at over 6 miles it was definitely the longest! Although Rob has traveled all over the country in search of great swims, he is most at home in the cold Pacific waters off the coast of Avila Beach, California.

Over the years Rob has made a name for himself in the swim world as a blogger and is often described as an open water evangelist and documentarist. Rob was nominated by OpenWaterSource.com for the 2010 Performance of the Year based on the blog’s grass roots promotion of the sport through blogging and touring his way through events all over the country. The blog was also nominated for a Reader’s Choice Award for Best Swim Blog in 2011.

Rob also does a fair amount of racing in the pool, but it turns out an adventure beard isn’t particularly conducive to fast times :) Rob is most active within the Southern Pacific Masters and Pacific Masters Regions but he has also swam meets in Wisconsin, Nevada, and Georgia with plans to hit Arizona shortly. You can check out his current best times over here.

Rob has been very involved with US Masters Swimming (USMS) the last few years. In 2010 he shot video at various USMS Open Water National races for promotional videos and has attended the USMS portion of the Aquatic Sports Convention as a member of the House of Delegates which votes on National policy and legislation for USMS. Locally he has served as a member of Southern Pacific Master Swimming’s Executive Committee as the Member-at-Large along with being the Marketing and Awards Chairperson.

Outside of the swim world Rob is the executive vice president of Systems & Marketing Solutions, an Internet Marketing firm located in Grover Beach which he helped launch in 2007. Systems & Marketing Solutions provides Google Adwords management services to clients all over the country and buys millions of dollars in ads each year. Systems & Marketing Solutions has been profitable and grown in revenue every year that it’s been in existence. Rob is also on the Board of Directors of the San Luis Obispo Creative and Marketing Alliance (SLOCAMA), a group that holds meetings to foster inspiration, collaboration, and education in the local professional creative and marketing community. Rob is a graduate of the Defense Language Institute’s intensive Korean Basic course at the Presido of Monterey, CA; the US Army’s 98C Signals Intelligence Analysis course at Goodfellow AFB, TX; and holds a degree from Allen Hancock College in Santa Maria, CA. While enlisted in the military Rob held Department of Defense recognized proficiencies in Korean, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish as well as a Top Secret SCI security clearance.
