Recently I got my hands on a prototype from Sanpei Optics of their adjustable earbud sunglasses. Sanpei Optics is local to me here in San Luis Obispo county and I was connected with them via my dad. The basic idea behind their invention is to create a pair of sunglasses that will hold ear buds and remain securely fastened to your head while you do active things… Running, hiking, biking, kayaking, etc. Currently Sanpei Optics is running an IndieGoGo campaign to help fund production of their product. I tested a bright red pair with waterproof earbuds.

After playing with them for a couple weeks I think they’re very solid. The sound from the headphones is good. The adjusting process is easy and they’ll work with either one or two earbuds in, you could even just wear them without the earbuds if you wanted to. The glasses don’t slip or require any adjusting or fidgeting once they’re set which is a major problem I have with other glasses in sweaty situations. The glasses mixed with the earbuds clamp down on my dome and aren’t going anywhere unless I tug on the earbud wires by accident. I will say however that pressure from the glasses can be a bit much if you wear them for a long time. In all fairness they feel like they’ll “break in” a bit over time to become more comfortable… also I have an enormous head which means most glasses are going to start pretty tight on me.

If you’re the type who likes to be very active outside and has problems keeping earbuds in while doing it you’re going to dig these glasses.

These glasses aren’t currently for sale, but like I said earlier an IndieGoGo campaign is ongoing to get these produced. If you pitch in some money now you can be one of the first people to get a pair once they hit the market. Go to┬áto learn more!
