Generally speaking I don’t eat breakfast, I just don’t function in the morning. I couldn’t hold out until lunch today so I grabbed a Hot Pocket out of the fridge about an hour before my swim. Bad move. On all the fast swims today my throat was on fire with microwaved pepperoni. I’m going to go ahead and consider this a lesson learned. Hot Pocket before swimming, bad. Hot Pocket after swimming good (in a bad for you kind of way).

The workout today was a little short on yardage but it was pretty hard. After the warm up we got right down to business. In the freestyle portions of the first set I really pushed it. I only have 2 more group workouts in the pool and one in the ocean before I head out for Big Shoulders so I gotta make them all count!

I missed one of the 50′s in the last set due to a pool buoy malfunction. I pushed off the wall one way and it took off in the other direction. I don’t really like pool buoys, I don’t totally get the point. Oh well.

I’m thinking about going back to the pool tonight, not for the yardage as much as I just need to cool off! It’s like 95 degrees here right now and pretty much no one in my town has an air conditioner because it’s right next to the ocean.

    Maybe try a little experiment if you're going to the pool again. Eat another, non-pepperoni hot pocket before your swim and see if the pepperoni might be the problem before writing off all hot pocket flavors.

    I swim early in the morning and generally go with the balance or luna bar option.

    I'm always a sucker for a science experiment… that's why I have so many swimsuits right now! I'll have to give it a shot with the non-pepperoni based hot pockets in the name of science. Generally speaking I almost always wait until after I swim to eat, I just couldn't hold out yesterday. Usually when I go to a meet I won't eat anything until I'm done… sometimes that's like 4 in the afternoon! It's a bad habit, but it just how my body works I guess.
