I swam down in Santa Maria today, and honestly it was a little difficult to get my head back to swimming in a pool after doing so much open water swimming the last week. Once we got half way through the first set I started to get a little more comfortable having walls and lines and stuff like that again.

On our set of 75′s I decided to step up and do the first round butterfly. I’ve been doing tons of freestyle and I felt like I needed to do some butterfly just out of principle. When I worked out alone I did way more butterfly but my workouts were generally less intense than what I do with a group. After 4 75′s of fly I felt like that was enough of that! My arms are still burning. Once I get the Big Shoulders race out of the way I have a lot of work to do to get back into my butterflying rhythm. I think during SCM season I want to get my 100 fly down to a 57.9 SCY equivalent which is about 1:04.62 according to Swimming World’s time conversion tool (just for reference, I swam 59.16 back in May at PMS SCY Championships).

Here’s today’s workout:

200 swim
200 kick
200 pull

4 x 200 Biondi drill/catch up drill/finger drag drill/swim by 50

Repeat x 2
4 x 75 on 1:20 (I did the first round fly instead of the prescribed freestyle)

50 easy

2050 yards total
