I haven’t been in the pool since Thursday and it’s been driving me nuts! I’ve been kind of sick on and off for the last week and just ended up sleeping off most of my weekend. Today’s swim was maybe 1100 yards at best. I didn’t really count. I swam a big chunk of freestyle to get started and then did a whole bunch of 25′s. I got my ‘Freestyle with Jason Lezak’ video from Go Swim (reviewed it here) today and I spent a lot of my swim trying out new stuff. I mainly played with more of a galloping stroke. I can feel the potential in it but it tires me out! I alternated back and forth between my regular stroke and a gallop. I’ll have to play with this some more. I also did a lot of fly. Tomorrow will be a real workout in Santa Maria to get me back on track.

That darn demanding kick of the gallop!!! I'm with you on the tiring out part, but when you get it, I love it. Too bad the only time I really need a fast freestyle is at the end of a 400 IM… and I'm usually too tired to gallop or kick. :)

400 IM… dude I'm still trying to swim a decent 200 IM! I've plateaued a little bit in my sprint freestyle events so I'm going to try and implement some stuff I learned from your video and see if I can have a break through in my times. I think the gallop is kind of a natural move, but to do it fast really burns energy!
