Today was my second day swimming in Santa Maria and the workout was a little more serious this time. This is good for me, but deep down I was hoping for an easy workout since I just finished my second swim meet in two weeks the day before.
The place where everything went a little sideways for me is the set we did with fins because, well… I don’t own fins. I usually swim just as I am, maybe with a kickboard if anything, and I don’t have fins, pull buoys, snorkels, etc. Apparently now is as good a time as any to get my hands on some of this stuff! I was supposed to do 4 50′s kick and then a 100 free, but I couldn’t keep up without fins. I ended up trimming it down to 3 50′s so that I could swim a real 100 when the time came.
200 swim
200 kick
200 pull
4 x 25 fly on :45
Repeat x 4
4 x 50 kick on 1:00 w/ fins (I did 3 x 50 w/ no fins)
100 free on 1:30 w/ fins (I swam w/o fins)
easy 50
10 x 100 w/ ~:15 rest
easy 50 and run back to work cool down!
3000 yards total prescribed… I swam about 2800
This group seems to do a lot of kicking which is good. I know I need to do more kicking in my workouts, but I get really bored with it when I’m by myself. I’m glad I finally managed to drop in with these guys. Once I manage to catch up to their style of workouts I think I’ll gain a lot of benefit from it.

Go to swimoutlet.com and buy a pair of Aqua Sphere Alpha fins and enjoy your workout while keep up during these kicks sets! Have Fun.
